A woman returns her starved dog as a stray, because she was “too busy with work”

Adopting a dog is a big responsibility, taking care of an animal is no small feat – feeding, taking on walks and of course, showing all the love the pooch deserves.

But one woman may not have been quite ready for taking care of a dog just yet. When she understood she was neglecting the poor dog, she tried to lie her way out of it and claim he was a stray. Now that woman is dealing with the law.

Six months after Alexandra Drew adopted Richter in 2016, she returned the dog claiming it was a stray.

After bringing him back to the shelter, staff from Humane Society of Sarasota County, in Florida, has discovered he was adopted six months ago by the same woman who had brought him in.
The dog was visibly starved, with his ribs and bones showing.

Drew tried to put the blame on anything but herself. When finally she confessed to authorities, she simply said she was “too busy with work” to feed him, according to Fox 13 News.
She has admitted to keeping Richter locked in a cage, and not having time to properly care for him.

A reporter from WFLA News Channel 8 spoke to Drew who said: “I feel terrible, I was scared so I lied. I’m taking responsibility, I don’t deny anything.”

“I’m not a bad person, this makes me seem like a monster.”
She was arrested and charged with animal cruelty by the police.

Richter was nursed back to health and adopted by a loving family who is committed to giving this sweet animal all the care he needs.
