If you don’t know what a Main Coon is, there’s no need to be shy, that’s what we’re here for. Maine Coons are the largest domesticated cat breed. They are believed to originate from the Norwegian Forest Cat, seemingly coming from Scandinavia with the Vikings. Maine Coons are the oldest cat breed in North America, and, unsurprisingly, the official state feline of Maine. They are also the closest domesticated cat breed to the wild Lynx. But that’s not what you’re here for, is it?
Robert Sijka is a renowned cat photographer, that’s currently based in Hong Kong, China. Sijka recently fell in love with this magical cat breed and captured a series of pictures of these spectacular felines. Here are some of our favorites:
The first thing you notice about Maine Coons is how darn big they get
An adult male can weigh as much as a staggering 18 pounds (8.2 kg), while an adult female can reach up to 12 pounds (5.4 kg).
Even when they’re young, Maine Coons can seem to be as big as an adult cat
But you can still tell that they’re just babies by their adorable looks.
When they yawn, they look like a roaring tiger
Don’t worry though, they make adorable meows just like any other cat.

They’re the closest thing you can get to raising a Lynx at home.
Some Maine Coons have a lion-like mane
They’re truly one of the most majestic cat breeds out there.
You probably noticed it by now, but it’s still worth mentioning that Maine Coons come in a huge variety of shapes and colors
With each one being just as spectacular as the other.
And like any other cat breed, they won’t try to hide the fact that they’re unhappy
You can’t blame this one though, I mean, who does a photo shoot on a Monday morning?!?
And last but most definitely not least – they care for their youngs exactly like any other breed of felines
It’s hard to believe that this little guy will grow to be as huge as his mother.
