Ethan Dearman, a security guard at Morrisons, recently became an online sensation after one woman showed the world how he puts himself second, and shelters a dog from the rain with his umbrella.
Tattoo artist Mel Gracie posted the picture of the supermarket security guard on her Twitter account. Gracie wrote: “Shout out to this @Morrisons security man keeping this good boy dry. He said ‘well you never know how dogs feel about the rain’.” Her tweet took the internet by storm. She tweeted the picture two days ago, on June 28th, and its already been liked by more than 146.5K people and retweeted 19.5K times.

Gracie managed to track the security guard, Ethan Dearman, and tagged him in her post. The man replied: “I didn’t think I’d go viral on twitter like this. I knew I was making people smile but this is something else entirely, lol.” One commenter asked why the owners tied their dog in the rain in the first place. Dearman quickly answered: “It wasn’t raining when he was tied there and since I can’t move another’s dog I thought using an umbrella would be a good compromise.”
People were touched and impressed by the man’s kind gesture. Warm responses to the tweet kept pouring in. One woman wrote: “Thank you for being so kind, it feels in short supply at the moment. I hope that the dog’s owner appreciated your lovely efforts and that @Morrisons recognises that they have a wonderful employee. I’m sure if they could the dog would have thanked you.” Another commenter added: “What a lovely, thoughtful thing to see amongst all the depressing pictures from the news. @Morrisons are lucky to have you as this picture is an amazing advert for them. I hope they give you a bonus because you deserve one.”
We certainly agree that Ethan deserves a raise. If not for his kind heart and goodwill, then at least for all the good (and free) publicity.
