Pampered Police Horse Won’t Start His Shift Without A Cup Of Sugary Tea

Many would agree that one of the hardest parts of our daily routine is waking up, knowing that we have to go to work. But everyone has the one thing that motivates them to get up from bed; from having something good to breakfast, to treating ourselves to sweet rewards, we all have something that comforts us.

But this police horse isn’t asking for much. All he wishes for is a mug of tea.

Meet Jack, a 20-year-old handsome police horse who refuses to get out of bed without a cup of tea. He has been serving with Merseyside Police for over 15 years now, and he is known for insisting on waking up from bed with a cup of sugary tea.

Each day in the past 15 years, has been the same for Jack. It started when he stuck his tongue in his handler’s mug, and now he is always included when the team does a tea round. As a member of the Merseyside Police Mounted Section, it is important for the stallion to be treated as an equal.

Watch the police horse having a blast with his cup of tea here:

The officers say that the police horse waits in his stable for someone to give him a mug of sugary tea so he could start off the day on the right foot.

Jake would rather have his tea with skimmed milk, but he won’t spare the two heaped teaspoons of sugar. His fellow riders add a bit of cold water in it so it would be in the perfect temperature.

Lindsey Gaven, Merseyside Police Mounted Section manager and trainer explained: “Jake is one of 12 horses we’ve got at the stable working with us. I’d definitely describe Jake as a horse with a lot of character. We’ve all learned his tea order – he’ll deal with one sugar, but is definitely happier when you remember to give him two.”

She added, “If you’re at the side of the stable and he sees you with a mug in your hand, you can guarantee he’ll trot on over to try and steal a slurp.”

Jake is a determined stallion who always surrounds himself with work, despite his old age. But due to his age, he will soon retire and enjoy golden years that are full of lazy mornings and sugary cups of tea.
