It’s always heartwarming to hear tales of genuine kindness. A family in Ontario, New York, provided us with such a story.
One evening in late October, the family noticed a new addition to their porch. A cat arrived, sat on the porch, and simply stayed there. A woman found him- she had no idea how or why the stray animal had made its way over.
The cat kept its paws out of sight as if it was protecting him. After a closer inspection, it became apparent that the cat was in poor shape. Its paws were injured, and it would need proper medical care.
It was clear that the poor animal was suffering. He had a pained look in his eyes, and every step he took was clearly a serious effort tinged with suffering.
The woman brought the cat to Lollypop Farm, the Humane Society of Greater Rochester, in order to give the cat the treatment it deserved. There, the cat was diagnosed with a disease called “plasmacytic pododermatitis”. This condition affected his front paws and left them raw and tender, making every movement excruciatingly painful.
The cat was named Buster, and began receiving treatment for his condition. Throughout the process, Buster never cried or complained, patiently enduring everything. He purred when his bandages were changed and seemed to appreciate the help he was getting.
With time, his condition improved. He had to wear mittens to protect his paws, and a cone around his neck to prevent him from licking or biting them. After some time, Buster’s treatment was complete and the mittens came off!
And now, less than two months after entering the clinic, Buster feels and acts like a brand new cat!
He plays and jumps, purrs and begs for attention. He has found a caring owner who gives him delicious tuna treats on a regular basis (but not too frequently).
And most importantly, the haunted pained look that was once in his eyes is now good. Buster made a complete recovery and is now living happily ever after.
