Man Saves ‘Unadoptable” Beagle From A Certain Death

Unfortunately, helping homeless pets is an issue all over the world. People adopt pets without being responsible enough to understand its meaning. Shelters are flooded with strays not being able to find homes for everyone. There’s a huge money shortage. When it comes to pets that require expensive medical care, it makes it even impossible to afford, so they have to be put down. It is heartbreaking, but this is reality.

Gregory the dog is a two-year-old Beagle that was scheduled to be put down due to his heartworm disease. Luckily, he had an angel who was there to save him.

Joe Kirk and his wife Schenley Huston-Kirk are an inspiring couple that goes above and beyond to make canines’ lives better. They are the co-founders of HOUND Rescue and Sanctuary, which is a non-profit organization located not far from Findlay, Ohio. HOUND stands for Helping Overlooked Unwanted Neglected Dogs.

The shelter takes in homeless dogs, aims to better their life quality and hopefully find them a caring home. But not only that it takes care of homeless dogs, it also does something that most shelters don’t do. The couple goes to other shelters where there are usually dogs at high risk of betting euthanized and take in dogs that are unlikely to be adopted; Seniors and disabled, ill and those who have behavior issues.

And so Joe Kirk decided to do something outstanding, saving Gregory’s life. The pooch was two days away from being euthanized. Then Joe came by the shelter he was housed in and took Gregory to their place where he could get the treatment and love he needed.

On the way to the shelter, Gregory couldn’t contain his happiness. He wanted to show Joe his huge appreciation, so he gave him the most adorable hug and snuggled him all the way. The doggo was so affectionate and loving.

The pictures of the emotional moment have captured the internet’s heart (scroll down to see the heart-melting photos).

Joe’s wife, Schenley, posted on Facebook last year: “Gregory is one thankful and appreciative Beagle! He KNOWS he is SAFE! He is Heartworm Positive and will be going through treatment, but he knows he is in good hands! We will get him healthy and provide him all the love he so deserves and a wonderful future!!”

The incredible couple took Gregory to all the medical checkups he needed, and they later treated the heartworm disease. Then something even more amazing happened. A loving family decided to adopt Gregory and keep him forever! Gregory lives a happy life and even has a new Beagle brother that became his best friend.

One of the most rewarding feelings for the couple is knowing that they make dogs’ lives much better and even save them at times.

Behind closed door, silently, when almost no one can see or hear, millions of pets are euthanized every year in the US. Sometimes its because they are sick and there’s not enough money to treat them. But there’s another reason they are being put down to sleep- overpopulation.

Some pets are lucky enough to have guardian angels like this compassionate couple, but most of them aren’t. Please, next time you consider adopting a pet, don’t buy one, adopt one from your local shelter, it will be forever appreciative of you saving its life.
