Sometimes people think they know it all. This beach visitor decided to pet a wild horse despite clear warnings to the contrary.
The incident took place in Assateague Island Beach last August. The beachgoer hung around the beach, completely unaware that he was going to experience one of the worst days of his life.
We know that horses are beautiful, and it’s irresistible to pet them, but rule number one when it comes to horses is never standing behind them- for something painful is waiting for you.
National Park Service’s warning calls people to stay away from wildlife:
“Visitors are kicked, bitten and knocked down every year as a direct result of getting too close to the wild horses. Treating wild horses like tame animals takes away the wildness that makes them special. Protect your family by respecting theirs. Give the horses the space they need to be wild.”
For some odd reason the horse didn’t appreciate the gesture that the man was offering, maybe he didn’t appreciate people touching him without asking permission.
As soon as the man with the Speedo reached his hand to pet the horse’s side, the wild animal took a step back and kicked the careless man in the testicles. The man folder over and struggled to recover, deeply regretting ignoring the warning. . Luckily it was all filmed by a curious onlooker, so we can now have a good laugh at this man’s expense.
Here’s the video of the shocking incident:
Is it unclear whether the horse was aiming for the man’s genitals, or if he was just trying to push him away. But if he did aim, this horse has a future in martial arts.
Assateague isn’t just another regular beach; beautiful wild horses roam around and visitors like taking pictures and feeling a bit closer to nature.
Locals believe that horses were brought to the island about 400 years ago by owners who lived on the mainland and tried to get away without paying livestock taxes.
Since the horses stayed all alone on the remote island, they had to learn how to survive and fend for themselves.
We hope that visitors who witnessed the unpleasant incident will learn from Speedo man’s mistake and spread the word: Stay away from wildlife!
