Raising awareness of endangered animal species is very important. Some of the endangered animals are being used for food and even clothing. The initiative that the modern clothing firm Lacoste did was just inspiring.
The International Union for Conservation of Nature’s Save Our Species is an international organization working in the field of nature conservation and sustainable use of natural resources. They decided to cooperate with Lacoste in order to create an inspiring limited-edition of clothes.
The concept is just amazing, instead of using the crocodile traditional Lacoste logo, they decided to use logos of endangered animal species! The exclusive polo limited-edition shirts is something that we all wish we had in our closet. They wanted it to go viral, to reach the largest audience they could, what better way to do it than launching the limited-edition on the runway at the Paris Fashion Week?
The green crocodile logo had been the only logo Lacoste used for 85 years, but the French clothing brand agreed to change it for the good cause of spreading the awareness, Lacoste stated, “For the endangered species of this world, the crocodile abandons its ancestral place,”. They used the same design of the original logo, which was a tribute to Lacoste founder, who got “the crocodile” nickname from his friends on the tennis court.
They took it to a whole new level when we said that the polo shirt line was a limited-edition, we really meant it. The number of the shirts was limited corresponding to the endangered species population size. Let’s take the Sumatran tigers for example, there are only 350 left, so they produced 350 polo shirts. Sadly, the remaining population of the California Porpoise is 30 individuals, corresponding to that, only 30 polo shirts were produced.
The Save Our Species Polo project has been raising awareness and inspiring people all over the globe. The profit from 185$ is donated to the IUCN conservation for each shirt that people purchase. The project was so successful that the entire collection of 1,775 pieces have been sold out in a short time. Don’t worry, it isn’t too late to donate and help the endangered animals, you can donate via the SOS- Save Our Species official website.
