Gay Penguin Couple Adopt An Un-hatched Egg

A beautiful story of unconditional love.

Since July two male penguins, Skipper and Ping, have been looking after an abandoned egg at the Berlin Zoo since July. The pair are looking forward to seeing their egg hatch.

The two have been wanting to have a chick of their own for ages, so this is a great welcome.

Speaking to German news outlet Berliner-Zeitung, Maximilian Jäger said the couple has paternal instincts, they have seen them try to hatch ‘fish and stones’.

He said: “The two penguin men behave like exemplary parents and warm the egg alternately.”

The model parents can be seen looking after their egg in turns, warming it between their feet to incubate it until it is ready to hatch.

The said egg was abandoned by the only female penguin at the zoo, so the zoo staff decided to act.

“We just had to put it on the feet of one of the guys, and he already knew what to do,” says zookeeper Norbert Zahmel.

It is a known penguin behavior in the wild, the devoted parents make sure to guard their precious egg from other penguins who might steal it.

“A successful hatching would be great,” Mr. Zahmel added.

Same-sex penguin couples are nothing new, a London Zoo actually held its very own pride event for them back in June. The Penguin Pride parade matched with the human one which took place the weekend after, and they even got their own banner for the event.

After all, when it comes to the animal kingdom or the human world, LOVE WILL ALWAYS BE LOVE, and we are all in for this blessed union.
