Dog Adopted After 900 Days At The Shelter Thanks To One Persistent Man

Some dogs find it more difficult than others to find their forever home, may it be because of their breed or simply their demeanor. Leo, the dog in this story, was happily adopted after spending 900 days at a rescue shelter. Matching him with the right person was anything but an easy task.

Leo started his life as a stray on the streets of Sioux City. After being caught, the pooch was brought to a kill-shelter, where he was scheduled to be euthanized. Luckily, Linda Reynolds, the CEO of Dogs Forever, heard his story and stepped in. “We said we would take him and I met the person that was transporting him in Webster City on Aug. 10, 2017, and brought him to Dogs Forever,” Reynolds said in an interview with ABC’s KCRG.

Sadly, after arriving at the rescue shelter, the pooch struggled to bond with potential adopters. Those who didn’t know Leo, often mistaken his enthusiasm for aggression. And so, the days went by and the pooch kept waiting for someone to notice him. The staff at the shelter started to lose hope he would ever find the home he so desperately needed. Gladly, things were about to take a sudden turn for the better.

On Christmas eve, exactly 900 days after arriving at the shelter, a man named David Evans saw Leo on the Dogs Forever Website. Despite knowing that dealing with Leo is going to be a challenging task, the man never gave up. In fact, he went out of his way to make sure that the pooch has everything he needs. The two underwent excessive training with the shelter’s trainer from December to March of that year. When recalling that period Reynolds said: “He said he was willing to put a fence in, he was willing to put the kennel inside. We asked him to work with Mike our trainer for a month…he worked with him for three months.”

But it was both sides benefitted from this match. “I went through a breakup and needed an animal to spend time with,” Evans told KCRG“No loneliness now.”

This just goes to show that you should never give up hope. There’s a lid for every pot!
