Augie Celebrated Her 20th Birthday Making Her The Oldest Golden Retriever In The World

One of the saddest parts about raising a dog is that they don’t live as long as us humans. Doggos have much shorter lifespans, so witnessing them grow old and tired is inevitable. Despite their age, senior dogs still have plenty of love, affection, and comfort to offer us, humans. August or Augie, recently celebrated her 20th birthday, making her the oldest Golden Retriever alive, and she looks like she has many more years ahead of her.

Born on April 20th, 2000, Augie had a difficult start at life. The adorable golden spent her first 14 years of her life, moving from one foster home to the next. She eventually ended up with Steve and Jeniffer Hetterscheidt, who adopted her into their Oakland Tenessee home.

With Goldens having an average lifespan of 10-12 years, the couple didn’t expect Augie to live this long. They initially adopted the senior pooch, to give her a warm and calm environment in which she could spend her final days. Now, six years later, Augie, who barely shows any signs of fatigue or pain, still goes on daily walks with her parents and other Golden siblings.

This passing April, Augie celebrated her 20th birthday with a big party at home. While Augie probably didn’t realize it, her party also marked another, just as significant event. Turning 20 officially made the doggo the oldest Golden Retriever in the world! Augie lived twice as long as most other goldens, and she doesn’t show any signs of slowing down any time soon.

Happy birthday and congratulations Augie. We are sure that you have many more happy years ahead of you, with your wonderful loving parents.
